 Guardian Certification/Licensing Exam Review Courses & Study Materials

Certification exams for the National Certified Guardian (formerly Registered Guardian) and National Master Guardian (MG) designation are administered and conducted by the Center for Guardianship Certification (CGC). The CGC also administers state specific certification/licensing exams in California, Florida, Texas and Oregon. The Review Courses for these exams, along with study guides and tapes, are offered by the National Guardianship Association (NGA). Because the exams and courses are run by different organizations, registration for the exams and courses is a two-step process and payment must be made separately to each organization.

Prepare for National and State Specific Exams

(Review Course Applications Must be Received by NGA 7 Days Before the Course)

The National Guardianship Association (NGA) offers several opportunities to prepare for the National Certified Guardian examinations, as well as state specific exams in California, Florida, and Texas.

• Order the National Materials for Independent Study – You can order the NGA study guide and/or a 2-hour audio study review available in tape or CD format without attending a review course.

• Register for a National Review Course - The national review course given at various locations throughout the year highlights the NGA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice - the core information guardians need to know to provide quality service and to pass the exam. • Register for a State Specific Review Course or Order State Specific Study Materials – In California, Florida and Texas NGA offers a Review Course that covers national content, as well as state specific information. Registration for the Review Course in these states includes a copy of the study guide specific to that state in addition to the national study guide. About Certification/Licensing Exams Through The CGC

Guardians from any state are invited to demonstrate a commitment to quality guardianship by taking the examination to become a National Certified Guardian. The certification program has been developed to measure understanding of guardianship practices in the context of the National Guardianship Association’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. In those states that have regulations regarding licensing and certification of guardians, the CGC has also been selected to administer the exams that qualify people to serve within those states. Combined national and state specific exams are offered by the CGC to meet requirements for California licensing, Florida competency, and Oregon and Texas certification.
