Networking
With members in the
United
States, Canada, and Australia, the NGA network provides members the opportunity
to interact with individuals who share the same interests in
guardianship issues. NGA offers the ability to learn from staff
in other states or provinces who have implemented guardianship
programs that may be coming to your state or province.
Publications

with: the relationship between the guardian and the ward; custody
of the person; management of the estate; termination and limitation
of guardianship; and more.
- Standards for Guardians
This must-have document
covers NGA standards, including: Conflict of Interest; Decision
Making: Personal Needs; Personal Contact and Ongoing Responsibilities;
Medical Services and Medical Treatment; and Management of Estate
and the Ward. Each standard is explained in detail and provides
guidance to guardians in the private and public sectors.
State Affiliates
Local and/or state affiliates under the umbrella
of NGA, receive association support, leadership training, and
the many benefits of NGA. State Affiliates provide invaluable
local resources to members. An additional affiliate fee does
apply.
Educational Opportunities
The NGA annual conference, held in
the Fall, provides an opportunity for face-to-face interaction
with people from all areas of guardianship and alternative
protective services. Each conference features nationally known
speakers and provocative workshops. It is an excellent
opportunity to meet with people from across the country who know
and deal with the same issues.
The success of
NGA’s inaugural Colloquium on Guardianship in 2008 reinforced
our commitment to continuing these sessions that are
specifically designed to allow guardians to focus on a single
topic of interest and spend time exploring various aspects of
that topic in some depth. The Colloquium is the spring
counterpart to the Conference, which covers many topics. This
one-day gathering is held in a different area of the country
each year.
Legislative Education
NGA provides its members
with up-to-date information affecting the guardianship field,
and with trends in the aging and disabilities network, on the
health care, business, social and regulatory issues.
Certification
NGA supports the certification program of the
Center for Guardianship Certification, which provides a
mechanism for continuing education and training of guardians and
conservators and enhances the development of guardianship as a
profession. The CGC offers two levels of certification: National
Certified Guardian (NCG) for the beginning professional and the
National Master Guardian (NMG) for the advanced professional.
